In the Garden, 2016, charcoal and Conté 17 x 19 inches.
This single-storey farmhouse, typical of the Poitou/Charente region, is built of cob with no foundations to speak of. It is said to be over 200 years old and was a small farm, with a couple of cows, a horse, chickens, pigs and goats, a couple of fields, a small vineyard and an outbuilding where bread was baked for the owners and their neighbours. Everything for self-sufficient living! But of course no sanitation or even water in the house. Just a tap in the front garden.
