Behind the Hedge

Behind the Hedge, 2009, watercolour, 20" x 25".

I was fascinated by the variety of shapes and different leaf patterns of these shrubs and trees which have been cut to hedge height to form a dense screen. In front of it is a fig tree whose entwined circling branches rhyme with the embracing figures. One can imagine all kinds of encounters and intrigues taking place in this secret space.
