A Peacock on the Roof, 2008, oil, 15" x 15".
Birds appear often in my work. They are a constant and evident presence in the near landscapes that I like to paint, whether as hens in a French farmyard, migratory geese in my local park or the blackbirds and other small songbirds that flit like free spirits over walls and fences. This picture records the concern for their domesticated fowl of a farmer and his wife at the arrival on their roof of a spirit that was noisy and wayward.
