Picking Greens

Picking Greens., 1995, watercolour 21" x 24".

This is a form of composition that I am fond of, with the land and trees rising behind the houses leaving very little sky, and a pathway on either side leading into the picture. Villagers often own a plot of land away from the house for growing vegetables. This piece of land is often a strip of land or section of a field which came about under the old Napoleonic Law where family land had to be divided equally between the children.
